Hungarian Tax Authority Releases 2024 Audit Plan Emphasizing Compliance Support and Data Analysis
Key Focus Areas for Tax Audits in 2024: Differentiated Action, Budgetary Risk Monitoring, Database Discrepancies, Large Taxpayer Audits, and Customs & Aliens Policing
The Hungarian Tax Authority (HTA) has announced its focus areas for tax audits in 2024, aiming to promote compliance and reduce budgetary risks. The audits will target differentiated actions based on compliance levels, monitoring to reduce risks, examining database discrepancies, auditing large taxpayers, and customs and aliens policing.
Differentiated action will support law-abiding taxpayers while taking strict measures against fraudulent ones. The HTA will provide support to compliant taxpayers and take immediate action against those intentionally circumventing laws. Monitoring business partners will also be crucial to filter out untrustworthy ones.
Audits will cover various sectors like e-commerce, tourism, and new activities such as internet-based content delivery and events organization. Newly established businesses with high invoice issuance or turnover increase will also be monitored closely.
The HTA will analyze database data to identify discrepancies in reporting, emphasizing the need for accurate and high-quality data. Audits of large taxpayers will focus on intercompany transactions and ESOP payments. Customs audits will target e-commerce, intellectual property rights, and illegal product trade.
Overall, the HTA aims to focus on high-risk areas, promote compliance, and utilize its database for thorough analysis. Taxpayers are advised to ensure accurate reporting to comply with regulations and the newly introduced eÁfa system.
