Email Notifications for Google Ads Suspension Due to Non-Compliant GDPR Consent Banners

Google Sending Emails to Publishers and App Owners Regarding GDPR Compliance and Possible Suspension

Google is cracking down on non-compliant GDPR Consent Banners, sending out emails to publishers, app owners, and others warning of potential suspension if violations are not resolved. The email outlines the responsibilities under the EU User Consent Policy, emphasizing the need to obtain consent for the use of cookies and personal data for ad personalization.

Thomas Eccel shared a screenshot of the email on Twitter, sparking discussions about the consequences of non-compliance. Google’s Ads Liaison, Ginny Marvin, also highlighted the importance of complying with the policy, especially for advertisers targeting consumers in the European Economic Area (EEA).

The deadline for taking action to ensure verifiable consent signals to Google is set for March 2024. Failure to comply could result in suspension of Google Ads Accounts. This new development has raised concerns among website owners and app developers, prompting them to review their consent mechanisms to avoid potential penalties.

For more information and resources on complying with Google’s Policy, publishers are advised to consult with their legal departments and visit the Policy help page. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving story.
