Concord Public Schools Dealing with Cyber Security Attack Aftermath

Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District in Massachusetts are currently dealing with the aftermath of a cyber security attack, school officials confirmed. Superintendent Laurie Hunter addressed the situation in a letter to the school community, revealing that the attack included a ransom file.

The district’s IT personnel have been working around the clock to identify, contain, and recover the system. Students and staff were set to return to a clean network environment on Monday, with upgraded security software being pushed out to all machines. The attack only impacted PCs, with the central office being the most severely affected.

In response to the attack, cafeterias at Concord Middle School and Concord Carlisle High School would only accept cash for snacks on Monday. Additionally, all computer users in the school system were required to reset their passwords.

Despite the challenges posed by the cyber security attack, Superintendent Hunter assured the school community that there was no evidence of student data being compromised. The district is working with outside teams, including forensic experts, a legal team, and the school districts’ insurance provider to address the situation.

As the investigation into the cyber security attack and possible data breach continues, officials are hopeful that everything will be back to normal in time for upcoming MCAS testing. Superintendent Hunter expressed gratitude to all those who have been working tirelessly to resolve the issue, emphasizing the collaborative effort to overcome challenges together.
