As Indonesia gears up for the upcoming presidential candidates’ debate, cybersecurity remains a pressing concern that needs immediate attention. Despite the country’s improved ranking in cybersecurity, data leaks continue to pose a significant threat.

According to the National Cyber Security Index (NCSI), Indonesia has secured the fourth position in ASEAN with a score of 63.64 and a global rank of 49 out of 176 countries. However, a study by SurfShark reveals that Indonesia ranks 13th globally for the highest number of data leaks, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.

The government has already taken steps to address cybersecurity challenges by establishing an emergency response team comprising various agencies. Additionally, a bill on personal data security has been passed to safeguard the digital space and protect citizens’ rights.

In the upcoming debate, presidential candidates are expected to outline their plans to tackle cybersecurity issues. Anies Baswedan aims to enhance Indonesia’s capability in addressing cybersecurity challenges, categorizing it as a form of terrorism. Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka plan to improve information and telecommunication security, while Ganjar Pranowo and Mohammad Mahfud MD focus on boosting cybersecurity capabilities in the era of quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
