Chamber Members Learn Cyber Security Tips at Monthly Breakfast Meeting

Tyrone Chamber members gathered at The Bull Pen for their monthly breakfast meeting on Thursday morning, where they were educated on the importance of cyber security by Joe Harford, founder and president of Reclamere in Tyrone.

Harford emphasized the dangers of clicking on links in emails, warning that it can invite cyber threats into homes and businesses. He stressed that cyber security threats are real and happening in the local community, with cyber attacks regularly seeking valuable personal information such as names, dates of birth, and social security numbers.

According to Harford, organizations with 25 employees or less are at a higher risk of going out of business following a cyber attack, with many having outdated and unprotected equipment. He highlighted the importance of secure passwords and using password managers to store them properly, as well as the need for increased awareness and vigilance when it comes to online activities.

Chamber Director Rose Black invited Harford to speak after the Chamber website was hacked, underscoring the need for caution and preparedness in the face of cyber threats. Senator Judy Ward, who was in attendance, praised the presentation for its practical tips on avoiding scams and improving cyber security practices.

Harford encouraged individuals and businesses to make a plan for enhancing their cyber security one step at a time, emphasizing that small changes can lead to significant improvements over time. For those seeking additional information or assistance with cyber security, Harford can be contacted at joseph@relamere.com.

Overall, the breakfast meeting served as a valuable reminder of the importance of cyber security in today’s digital age, urging attendees to take proactive steps to protect themselves and their businesses from potential threats.
