Thai Health Ministry Assures Data Security Amid Breach Rumours

The Public Health Ministry of Thailand, led by Cholnan Srikaew, has reassured the public of the safety and security of patient data in their system amidst rumours of a breach. The rumour, originating from the Rural Doctors Society (RDS), alleged that personal information of over 2.2 million Thai citizens had been compromised and sold on a dark website for a sum of US$10,000.

The RDS claimed that the leak was traced back to the Public Health Ministry’s Mor Prom app, prompting demands for an explanation from the Ministry. However, Cholnan denied any connection to the breach and announced plans for a joint press conference with the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) to address the issue.

The leaked data reportedly includes Thai national ID numbers, but the Ministry stated that the breach is more related to financial transactions than health information. The Ministry is working with the NCSA and other agencies to investigate the leaked data and ensure compliance with cyber and personal data security measures.

The health minister emphasized the priority placed on personal data security for patients and announced strict supervision in test regions for the 30-baht healthcare scheme. Hospitals not yet connected to the system will receive personnel training to enhance data security measures.

The Ministry’s efforts to address the breach and enhance awareness of cyber threats among health personnel demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding patient data and maintaining the integrity of their systems.
