Commvault Appoints Gareth Russell as Field Chief Technology Officer, Security for Asia Pacific, Strengthening Expertise in Cyber Resilience

Commvault, a leading provider of data protection and cyber resilience solutions for hybrid cloud organisations, has announced the appointment of Gareth Russell as Field Chief Technology Officer, Security for Asia Pacific (APAC). Russell, a seasoned cybersecurity veteran, brings a wealth of experience in cyber strategy, risk management, and digital transformation to his new role at Commvault. With a track record of helping organisations and governments in APAC manage their cyber risk postures, Russell is well-equipped to assist enterprises in strengthening their recovery capabilities in the wake of cyberattacks.

The recent State of Data Readiness market analysis by Commvault & Tech Research Asia has highlighted critical gaps in cyberattack recovery efforts across APAC organisations. The report reveals that while awareness of cyber resiliency is increasing in Australia and New Zealand, maturity levels remain low, with only 4% of organisations believing they have a proactive, mature capability.

Furthermore, the data shows that cyberattacks are on the rise, with many organisations still vulnerable to significant breaches targeting backup and production data. In the last 12 months, 62% of Australian and 68% of New Zealand organisations reported at least one cyberattack, with Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam also experiencing a high number of attacks on data environments.

In his new role, Russell’s key priority will be to collaborate with organisations to strengthen their cyber resilience strategies and protect against the growing frequency and sophistication of cyber threats.
