Data Tracking and Opt-Out Strategies

Google makes it clear: You are still being tracked in Incognito mode on Google Chrome

Google Chrome Incognito Mode: Not as Private as You Think

The illusion of privacy while browsing in Incognito mode on Google Chrome has been shattered as three people in the US have sued Google for tracking their online activity. Google, however, is adamant that the meaning of ‘Incognito’ should be common knowledge and that users should not expect complete invisibility while using this mode.

Despite Google’s claims, a California judge has refused to dismiss the $5 billion lawsuit, stating that Google did not adequately inform users about the extent of data tracking that occurs while in Incognito mode. Google has vowed to vigorously defend themselves against these allegations.

According to Google, Incognito mode simply means that browsing history is not saved to the browser or device, but websites visited and third-party services can still track user activity. The company emphasizes that users should read the fine print, as it clearly states that browsing activity may still be visible to websites, employers, schools, and internet service providers.

So, the next time you think you are browsing privately in Incognito mode, remember that your online activity may not be as hidden as you think.
