SCAA Cyberattack Sparks Concerns Over Member Data Security and Privacy

The South China Athletic Association (SCAA) recently fell victim to a cyberattack that compromised the organization’s computer servers, raising concerns about the security of member data. In response to the breach, the SCAA swiftly implemented measures to address the situation and protect its members.

According to an official press statement released by the SCAA, the unauthorized third party breached the association’s computer servers on March 17, 2024. The SCAA expressed deep regret over the incident and took immediate action by shutting down affected computer equipment to safeguard member data, including personal information such as names, dates of birth, ID numbers, and addresses.

The SCAA also reported the cyberattack to law enforcement authorities and submitted a formal report to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) in Hong Kong.
