Jamestown Native Participates in NATO Cyber Security Exercise
Terrance DeJesus, a Jamestown native currently residing in Ohio, recently had the opportunity to participate in the annual Locked Shields Cyber Exercise through the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE). This exercise, which began in 2010, is the largest annual cyber security exercise in the world.
DeJesus was selected to be part of the blue team, which focuses on defending against attacks from the red team, made up of ethical hackers. His role involved threat hunting, where he manually identified threats and worked to defend against them in a mock scenario. DeJesus, who works as a Senior Cyber Security Research Engineer/Area Lead for Elastic, a search analytics company, was chosen to represent the United States, Estonia, and France in this exercise.
Participating in this exercise holds great significance for DeJesus, as it allows him to showcase his skills and contribute to global cyber security efforts. He hopes to demonstrate that regardless of where you come from, you can make a positive impact on the world. Additionally, DeJesus is open to mentoring others interested in pursuing a career in cyber security, emphasizing the rewarding and exceptional nature of the field.
Overall, DeJesus’s participation in the NATO cyber security exercise highlights the importance of collaboration and expertise in defending against cyber threats on a global scale.
