National Cybersecurity Alliance Announces Third Annual Data Privacy Week Campaign
WASHINGTON (January 22, 2024) – The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) has unveiled the program for its third annual Data Privacy Week campaign, set to run from January 22nd to January 27th. This initiative aims to highlight the critical importance of digital privacy for both consumers and businesses through a series of educational webinars featuring industry experts.
Lisa Plaggemier, Executive Director at NCA, emphasized the need for individuals and businesses to safeguard their personal information in today’s digital age. With the constant collection of vast amounts of personal data through various online platforms, the risk to privacy has never been higher. As technology continues to advance faster than regulations, it is essential for people to educate themselves and take proactive steps to protect their sensitive data.
The theme for this year’s Data Privacy Week is “Take Control of Your Data,” focusing on empowering individuals to actively manage their online presence and data. The campaign will offer educational materials and host events with privacy experts, policymakers, and engineers to provide practical strategies for navigating the evolving landscape of data privacy effectively.
Data Privacy Week builds on the success of Data Privacy Day, which originated in the United States and Canada in 2008 as an extension of Data Protection Day in Europe. This day commemorates the signing of Convention 108 in 1981, the first international treaty addressing privacy and data protection.
To support Data Privacy Week as a Champion, individuals and organizations can visit the NCA website. For more information on the campaign and events, visit the official Data Privacy Week page on the NCA website.
