Annual Langley Senior Resources Society Fundraiser Draws Cars and Trucks for Shredding Event
Cars and trucks lined up at the Langley Senior Resources Society parking lot on Saturday for the organization’s annual fundraiser. The event, which featured a by-donation document disposal service, saw a steady stream of vehicles dropping off bags and totes filled with sensitive papers for shredding.
Executive director Kate Ludlam commented on the busy morning, noting the generosity of the community in supporting the event. As boxes of documents were shredded into confetti by RecordXpress, district manager Rod Ivey highlighted the increasing concern for personal data security, leading to more people taking advantage of safe shredding services.
With recent data breaches making headlines, Ivey emphasized the importance of shredding any documents with personal information to protect against identity theft. The event also included a special sale by the society’s Tuk Shop Thrift Boutique and a hotdog lunch at the cafe, sponsored by RICK the Realtor.
In total, the fundraiser raised $7,017.88, with donations coming from shredding services, thrift shop sales, and lunch purchases. Ludlam expressed gratitude for the community’s support and hopes to continue hosting the event annually. The success of the fundraiser reflects the growing awareness of data security and the importance of safely disposing of sensitive documents.
